We like drinking balanced wines. A little of this, a little of that. Wines that are fun, vibrant, and go well with food. Daniel, the wine enthusiast of the family, has picked wines that flow with the season. Local comes first just like our belief in food, meaning we support Malibu, Santa Ynez, and Central Coast wines.
But value is also important, and that means going international more and more these days. So when we find a wine that demands our interest we don’t want to deprive our guest, based solely on a price point. So look for rosé from Provence, sparkling wine from the Bouzy region, Gruner Veltliner from Austria, as well as Aglianico, Tempranillo, and Rhone blends that represent the heart and soul of affordable red wine drinking for us.
We also make our own wine at Chez Melange offering a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir crafted by Norman Yost of Flying Goat Cellars, and a Dolcetto blend made by Steve Clifton of Brewer-Clifton and Palmina wines.
What is happening with beers today? We are in a time in which beer is as intricate and fun to explore as wine. With this in mind, we feature eight rotating beers on draft and a variety of bottle selections that complement food and appeal to many tastes. Our goal is to embrace beers like geuze, lambics, great IPAs, and Belgium styles at our Gastropub.
Our goal is to introduce new premium liquors to our neighborhood. We prefer smaller, handcrafted spirits like Snow Queen Vodka, Aviation Gin, and Dos Lunas Tequila because their quality is on another level. They represent a development of artisanal spirits; and frankly, they taste better.
We enjoy using fresh, seasonal fruits, herbs, and juices for our cocktails that fall in line with our belief in food. We are not mixologists; we have fun making drinks, but we don’t want you to wait ten minutes to get one. We are bartenders.
We want beans that represent a fair trade environment and are healthy to the earth. That’s why we brew only 100% Arabica beans that change with the season, and over the past 26 years we have developed a strong relationship with Alessandro Café.
Like us, Alessandro Café is a family business of a father, mother, and son, and they believe in many of the same things we believe in like taking care of people, and sharing in the culture we love. And frankly, their coffee tastes better.
In regards to our Tea, we think our supplier, Mighty Leaf says it best. "With hundreds of tea varieties, discovering your favorites will take you on a journey where the complexities of flavor, aroma and color seem endless. The more tea you taste, the more you will learn to appreciate the nuances between tea types."
Loose leaf tea is far superior to anything you will find in a bag, and unfortunately it seems to be found at less and less restaurants these days. But we believe the flavor is fuller, the aromas are stronger, and the taste is far more potent, so why would we serve anything else.
